System Setup
This page provides
information for your cooling system setup - whether it's for your
Home Theater or Stereo System. The TempraCool controller unit should be
located centrally in your cabinet or home theater system so that all
fans can be placed as desired. Since the controller circuitry also
produces heat, do not position it anywhere where it would be exposed
to excessive heat. That is, do not place it on top of your hottest
component.
System setup is easy. When you receive the
TempraCool system, you'll have your fans, an AC adapter and a
controller unit.
Step 1 - Unpack
fans. Unpack a fan.
You'll notice each fan has a 3-pin female connector. Along
with each fan you'll also find a separate 3-pin to 4-pin cable.
The 4-pin connector is called a MOLEX connector. Attach the
separate cable to the fan
using the 3-pin connectors. Repeat this for the remaining
fans.
Step 2 - Connect the fans together.
Now plug
all the fans together using the MOLEX connectors. Note
- some of the connectors fit snugly - you may have to wiggle them
slightly in order to get the pins to seat.
Step 3 - Connect fans to the
controller. Connect
the fans to the controller's MOLEX connector (terminating to the red-black wire). The
connections you have just made are called the wiring harness in the
diagram below.
Step 4 - Attach power supply.
Attach the power supply to the controller.
The assembly should look like this:

Step 5 - Test
the system. Plug the power supply into an outlet and
ensure all fans are operating.
Step 6 - Placement. Disconnect the fans if
necessary in order to place them around your components. The
temperature sensor should be placed near one of your hotter
components - perhaps a DVR or amplifier. Included is a mounting
bracket with an adhesive strip that you can use to anchor the
sensor.
If your fans need to be further apart, you can buy fan extensions on

There are two ways you can place your fans - either on the shelf, or
mounting them onto the enclosure. Each are described
below:
Shelf Placement
If you have adequate ventilation inside the cabinet, you
can simply place fans near your components as shown.
The fans attach to the
controller unit and should be placed strategically near your
components. When the fan is placed behind the audio component, a
stream of air passes around the component providing cooling. If your
components are located on shelves, simply place the fan on the shelf
behind that component. Care should be taken so that you don't have
too many components stacked on top of each other. It's important to
try to achieve airflow around each one. The approach is
obviously simpler than mounting the fans on the enclosure which is
described below.
Enclosure
Mounting
The optimal cooling solution could be to move air through
your enclosure. Air would enter the enclosure through an intake
location and leave the enclosure through an exhaust location. This
requires the use of tools such as a drill and hole saw. So if
you're handy, and have access to a drill and 3 inch hole saw, you
can drill holes in your AV enclosure. The fan blade diameter is
roughly 3 inches. You'll notice four mounting holes, which will
require a drill bit that accommodates the four mounting screws that
are provided with each fan.
Obviously you want these holes to be in a location where
the placement does not ruin your enclosure. You can use two fans
for intake near the bottom of the enclosure, and use two fans for
exhaust near the top of the enclosure. Before you drill, make sure
all wires reach the desired locations. When you mount the fans,
make sure they blow the right direction (intake fans pulls air into
the enclosure and exhaust fans push air out). And please use
caution with power tools - we're not responsible for any accidents
or goof-ups!Ready?
